Use of the EMAS Logo
Reference Regulation This guide is without prejudice to Community law, national legislation and technical standards not governed by Community law, in particular Council Directive 84/450 / EEC of 10 September 1984 relating to the approximation of the laws, regulations and administrative provisions of the Member States concerning misleading advertising, and the duties of organizations subject to these laws and regulations.
1.1. Objectives of the EMAS logo One of the fundamental elements of Regulation (EC) n. 761/2001 in its new version consists of the introduction of alternative solutions for communicating environmental information to interested parties. Organizations are encouraged to report on their environmental performance to the population and their customers by using these new communication possibilities. The EMAS logo is the trademark established by the regulation (CE) n. 761/2001.The purpose of the logo is to inform the public and other interested parties:
In particular, it indicates that the organization provides periodic environmental statements that can be consulted by the public, which have been validated by an independent verifier.
In this context, the new EMAS logo has a threefold function:
The European Community intends in fact to give the EMAS system an added value, offering organizations that adhere to this program new and credible opportunities to demonstrate their efficiency and commitment to environmental protection and to communicate with the interested parties through the extensive range of tools proposed in this guidance document.
