B- The Design of the Environmental Management System:
ISO14001
The constituent elements of the environmental management system according to the ISO14001 standard can thus be identified:
- Formal elements:
environmental policy and corporate safety
environmental aspects
legal requirements
objectives and targets
program (evaluation of effects, interventions, costs, etc.)
.
- Management system:
organization, responsibility
education / communication / documentation
operational situations / emergencies
.
- Control system:
monitoring / testing / recordings
non-conformities / corrective actions / prevention
audits - reviews
The path of the ISO standard and its specifications provide that "the organization" (the company):
- first of all it conducts an analysis or verification of the relationship between company and environment, that is, it evaluates the environmental impact of its productions (eg quality and quantity of discharges, emissions, waste, etc.), of products and services;
- then elaborate a policy, and establish a plan that addresses the various critical points highlighted;
- once the policy and the plan are prepared, the company must monitor the performance and try to improve the system.
